When it comes to building the foundation for a strong relationship, there are a few things you need to take into consideration and factor into your decisions. Now, as you know, my blog is not just about the relationships you have with your partner but also the relationships you have with strangers and even the relationship you have with your own children.
The concept of relationship building is universal, but the common misconception is that they are different. While there are some differences, the foundation is the same. A strong relationship is built on trust and not on desire and lust. This is the same no matter who you are referring to.
For your partner trust and respect will mean the difference between having bursts of jealousy and having confidence in your partner. For your business associate, it means treating your partner with respect and dignity. With your children, it is a combination of the two plus love. Your children will have an instant an automatic trust and respect for you as their parent and you will need to have the same as well.
When it comes to building the foundation for a strong relationship it is important to ask yourself do you have the trust and do you have the respect. If you don’t have these things, it will be difficult for you to move forward in that relationship or for that relationship to grow.
The reason is that without these two elements there is too much room available for other emotions or feelings to enter. Without trust, there is distrust and distrust will lead you to take actions you would not have taken had there been trust present.
Does this mean give trust and respect freely with no care for what that may mean to you personally? To answer that you have to ask yourself who it is you are trying to build this relationship with. Is it someone who has a reputation for dishonesty? Is it someone who has a history of being unfaithful? Is it someone who has a track record for causing harm to someone?
Before you make a decision to build a relationship you will need first to determine whether this is a relationship you want to build. If it is, then the answer to the question should you give trust freely and with no case for what that may mean to you personally is YES.
If however you have decided this relationship is not worth building than there really is no need to even answer the question. Move on. When you want to build a strong foundation, you will do so freely and with everything. When you don’t want to build the relationship you simply move on. You don’t have to have a relationship with everyone, and that is the beauty of relationship building. You always have a choice.
